UN Committee on the Elimination of Race Discrimination (CERD) has published concluding observations following a review state of race equality in the UK over a three-day period. Overall the report is a success in highlighting the concerns of civil society organisations about race equality issues in the UK today.

Why don’t we have celebrities singing “Let them know it’s Christmas time” to raise money for the 3 million or so children in this country living below the poverty line? Why is there no Bono or Bob Geldof marshalling the campaign to end child poverty?

Protecting children from BME backgrounds is an increasingly pressing issue. The growing ‘diversity’ of the youth population, greater calls for inter-agency working, and the relative absence of ‘race’ in policy and guidance mean it’s important to understand what role ethnicity plays in decision making.
To help provide an overview of these issues, brap have produced ‘Child protection and BME communities’.
