The Joseph Rowntree Foundations (JRF) is currently seeking to support projects that address the economic, social and environmental challenges faced by people and places that experience poverty and social disadvantages, in particular in the context of constrained public spending.
How can we create a world free of violence for our children?
From the 15th until the 26th of July, Friction Arts are honoured to be hosting Isaura Mendes, the founder of the Bobby Mendes Peace Legacy, a non-profit organisation, based in Boston, USA. The Peace Legacy is named in honour of Isaura’s oldest son Bobby who was murdered in 1995, which sparked a spiral of violence in her community which is still taking young lives today. It is rededicated to her youngest son Matthew who was murdered in 2006.
Handsworth Central Neighbourhood Forum Public Meeting
Handsworth Central Neighbourhood Forum and the Birchfield Neighbourhood Policing team will be holding a joint public meeting on Wednesday 10th March, 18:30-20:00. The agenda will cover a variety of local issues, including the regeneration of Birchfield, the Alcohol Rehabilitation Centre at Midland Heart, and feedback from the Birchfield Neighbourhood Police Team.

Birmingham Celebrates Local Hearts
On October 21st, people who have made an outstanding contribution to their local community were honoured in a Birmingham Local Hearts Awards event at the Council House.
Winners and Nominees ranged from Dolores Pinkney who runs the Dojo project in Handsworth, to Erma Lewis, who set up a wheelchair recycling project based in Harborne.
