British Association of Settlements & Social Action Centres [bassac]

Located in areas of deprivation, bassac members are united by a common goal – to tackle the causes and effects of poverty, exclusion and discrimination. bassac helps its members to build thriving communities by supporting, advising and representing their organisations in key policy debates, by sharing information and resources and developing the multi-purpose approach at international, national and local levels.
Birmingham Association of Neighbourhood Forums [BANF]

Neighbourhood forums are community groups run by and for local people. They provide an opportunity to discuss and influence the issues that affect local communities, such as community safety and crime education, environmental issues, health and social issues, housing, local economy and transport.

BVSC, the centre for voluntary action

BVSC offers support to VCOs by providing help in setting up a new organisation, providing a payroll service, handling finances, giving specialist HR advice, providing professional conference rooms, practical tools to help manage finances, prove the value of your work and to access further support.

Development Agencies Network

Development agencies are locally based and well established voluntary organisations in Birmingham with the experience, knowledge and skills to share with less established locally based voluntary and community organisation. Although each Development Agency is unique, they all offer support, guidance, training opportunities and learning resources, either on a one to one basis or otherwise.

National Council for Voluntary Organisations [NCVO]

The National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) is the umbrella body for the voluntary sector in England. It works to support the voluntary sector and to create an environment in which voluntary organisations can flourish. Membership is free to VCOs with turnover under £10,000 and they have access to services at discounted rates.

North Smethwick Development (NSDT) began in 1989 initiated by a group of residents. Led Rev Janet Full James to successfully challenge a Compulsory Purchase Order on local housings and received grants from Barrow Cadbury and Tudor Trust to employ a community development worker.
