All the very best with this today. And hopefully you get what you want out of it - mainly peace and restored respect to the streets of B'ham. My thoughs and best wishes are with the families for whom lost loved ones and lost buisnesses and anybody who were affected by the recent riots. Good luck !!!

Cllr Kooner has worked incredibly hard to put together a business plan in an open and transparent process. She has worked selflessly staying in meetings till midnight sometimes. For some-one who has obviously not bothered attending a single residents meeting to say she is a building a powerbase through this is complete and utter rubbish! Try doing some community work yourself rather than criticising those that offer their time and commitment!!!

I have significant fears for the opportunities for manipulation of volunteers in the LINks (soon to be Healthwatches) around the country as the local authorities take control of the funding purse-strings.

Funding is almost certainly going to be reduced in any event, but as that local authority funding will be from the central government general grant and will no longer be ring-fenced, local authorities can bully and blackmail volunteers by saying, in effect, "Do as we tell you or you will not get any funding." This destroys not only the independence of volunteers, but their political neutrality credibility too; and it goes without saying it will undermine volunteer morale, retention and recruitment.

Portrait Of The 1985 Handsworth Riots - Pogus Caesar - BBC1 TV . Inside Out.

Broadcast 25 Oct 2010. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ey7ijaXv6UQ

Birmingham film maker and photographer Pogus Caesar knows Handsworth well. He found himself in the centre of the 1985 riots and spent two days capturing a series of startling images. Caesar kept them hidden for 20 years. Why? And how does he see Handsworth now?.

The stark black and white photographs featured in the film provide a rare, valuable and historical record of the raw emotion, heartbreak and violence that unfolded during those dark and fateful days in September 1985.

Residents or any residents trust cannot make this place self-supporting. No politician should be allowed to use it as her / his power base. Only an established organisation like a Sikh Temple or similar body can run it successfully as a Community Centre. All the Sikh Temples and other organisations in and around this area should be approached. Thanks

Hi, We have added a different version which can be shut down if you don't want to see it!
'Force' is a rather strong term. We sought to encourage people to take the survey so that we may assist them more effectively. No harm in that!
Many thanks.

Tippa, I like your e-newsletter but the survey "box" is driving me crazy as it will not allow free reading of what I want to read - it just moves a bit up or a bit down where it wants to go; you cannot make it disappear from the page either. I got so fed up I though I would do the survey to get rid of it, but it would not work!

Is it just me? have you had feedback from others? perhaps you could try it yourself on someone else's computer? It was not someone's idea to "force" people to do the survey, was it? I would hate to think you would do that. Anyway, all the best and see you around, Electra

Currently we have more volunteers than we have charities with IT projects, so now is a great time to request a volunteer to help with your IT.

This is an utter disgrace and it is good that the city has been penalised for this depraved treatment of women workers.

When they preach at us about inclusion and equality issues perhaps they should get their own house in order first!
