About Us

Mentoring Event 2011
Community Network 4 Birmingham (CN4B) is an independent membership organisation set up in 2008 by people from various Community Networks (informal / residents groups, voluntary and community organisations and active citizens) in Birmingham.
Our aim is to support and promote the development and governance of community networks in the city that enable communities to link up effectively.
CN4B has provided a degree of one-to-one support to key individuals within our membership organisations and groups.
In addition we provide generic advice, resources and signposting to any organisations/groups that request it (via phone/email/others sources), and many of our website resources are open to any visitor to access freely (although there are some member-only areas of the site).
In 2011 we trialed a very successful Network Peer Mentoring Pilot and seek to develop this further. In 2010 we worked in partnership with Birmingham City Council’s Equalities Team to deliver 3 months of governance advice utilising the ‘Midnight Bus’. We ran a series of mobile advice surgeries targeting community hubs based in the priority areas of Birmingham.
Through consulting with CN4B members, and as a consequence of training and other service evaluations, we recognise that many small organisations need more focussed assistance to ensure good governance and practice can be implemented in their operations. This was a primary reason for developing the Peer Mentoring Programme.
