Government announce suspension of vetting and barring scheme rollout

Youth Matters - Volunteers

The Vetting and Barring Scheme changes planned to be introduced on 26th July have been cancelled by the government today.

The BBC reports as follows :

“Home Secretary Theresa May is to announce that registration, due to begin next month, is to be put on hold.

The government is now contacting 66,000 organisations, including charities, voluntary groups and education authorities, to tell them that the planned registration is being cancelled. A ministerial announcement to explain the change of plan is due on Tuesday.”

Eligibility for CRB checks is unaffected for the moment, and the planned introduction of new CRB application forms is still scheduled for 26th July.
